The African nation of Cape Verde is to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) before the end of the year, Prime Minister Jose Maria das Neves has said.
According to the country's premier, joining the WTO is a sign of the economic progress sweeping through Cape Verde and will open the country to more tourism and investment.
Neves said on Thursday that the county would join the WTO before December 31st this year, reports Macau Hub.
Speaking from the Cape Verde capital of Praia, he explained that negations with current WTO members had proved successful and had cemented a good relationship with Brazil and the USA.
Cape Verde originally sought WTO inclusion in 1990 and in 2000 an official working group was set up to aid the process.
The WTO is the only international body which regulates trade between different countries. Its aim is to help importers, exporters and producers to carry out international trade in keeping with certain legislation.
