Three new courses are to be built on the archipelago of Cape Verde by 2010, as the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) and Cape Verde Development have agreed on a common project.
The new investment includes the creation of two five-star resorts, three golf courses designed by famous South African golfer Ernie Els, as well as two training academies.
The first course is to be built on the island of Sao Vincente, while the other two will be located on the island of Sal.
PGA director of property and development, Robert Maxfield, said: "Golf has been associated with Cape Verde for more than 100 years but this is a new chapter in the country's golfing history and it is great that the PGA is at the heart of this developing golf nation."
The PGA was the first professional golfer's association to be created in the world in 1901.
Among its founders were famous golfers including JH Taylor, James Braid and Harry Vardon.
The PGA nowadays works with 70 countries worldwide and has 7,500 qualified members.
