The Western African Island, homeland of the likes of Cesaria Evora or Mayra Andrade, owes its fame to the musical talent of its inhabitants, and a visit to the islands during the St. Peter Festivities will only confirm this.
The religious commemoration is the time for the Cape Verdeans to share moments together, singing, playing and dancing on traditional cola drumming.
All religious and cultural activities will take place in Ribeira Brava on the island of Sao Nivolau until July 6th, A Semana has reported.
As part of the traditional festivities, the beautifully decorated Saint Peter boat will depart from Chanzinha next Sunday at 2pm and make its way to Passagem.
An agricultural and farm fair has also been organised for the event in the Maiamona sports complex, a unique chance for visitors to discover some traditional Cape Verdean delicacies and to taste blue marlin, Cape Verde being on of the best places in the Atlantic to catch the fish species.
Sao Nicolau is one of Cape Verde's nine inhabited islands, accessible by ferry from Mindelo or Praia, or by plane from Sal, Praia or Mindelo.
