Both today (Thursday 13th January) and next Thursday (20th January) are national holidays in Cape Verde.
Today is Democracy Day and next Thursday is Heroes’ Day when its citizens remember the assassination of Amilcar Cabral who was assasinated by the Portuguese on 20th January 1973. Cabral was born in Portuguese Guinea in 1924 to Cape Verdean parents and he fought for independence of both Portuguese Guinea and Cape Verde. Read more
