Beaches & Weather in Cape Verde

If you love long white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and the sun on your back then you will not be disappointed with the spectacular Cape Verde beaches.

With miles of stunning coastline the Cape Verde beaches are never crowded.

Santa Maria beach, on the Island of Sal is simply stunning offering four and a half miles of golden white sand. Enjoy long romantic strolls or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the peacefulness.

Boa Vista is home to the most spectacular beaches in the archipelago with a dazzling stretch of 22km of white powdery sands and tropical waters. Pure paradise!

The weather on each island can vary, however in general temperatures are pretty stable throughout the year hovering somewhere in the high 20s - and with virtually no rain the islands make an ideal year round destination.

The wind also brings some benefits, such as lower humidity and the islands are particularly popular for kite and windsurfing (best conditions Nov-Apr).

Due to the location in the Atlantic Ocean and some of the islands being flat it can be windier than the mainland.

The climate chart below shows a comparison in hours of sunshine and temperature over the period of 12 months between Cape Verde and London.

Figures for rainfall can be quite misleading as they are wildly different on each island. Sal, Boa Vista and São Vicente receive almost no rain while on some of the higher peaks on Santo Antão and Fogo there is up to 2 metres of rainfall a year, making them lush and green. Tempartures also vary from island to island and within each island, - in the desolate centres of the flat islands, temperatures can reach 40 degrees whereas the coastal areas generally remain in the high twenties.
