Your driver will pick you up from your Gambian hotel and take you to Banjul where you can experience the hustle and bustle of the port before boarding the ferry to Barra.  Generally you will make 45 minute crossing as a car passenger, although at busy times it may be necessary to make the crossing as a foot passenger; however, you will be escorted at all times. The ferry can be crowded and a real experience so is not for the faint hearted.

You will then be driven to the border crossing about 20 minutes away along a bumpy road, where your driver will take care of all the formalities. After the border, the drive to your hotel takes between 45 minutes and 2 hours along a good tarmac road passing through the Senegalese countryside and African thatched villages, stopping for refreshments when necessary. Getting there can be a bit of an expedition but is a fascinating experience in itself, a good sense of humour is needed as ferry times can be erratic and local conditions can from time to time cause plans to change!

We would recommend that you travel in loose cotton clothing and comfortable flat shoes/sandals.
