The Pestana Tropico is located on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and has a reputation for being a very comfortable hotel with a restaurant renowned as one of the best on the island.
The hotel is set in a residential area of Praia, the Cape Verdean capital city and the largest in the archipelago and is flanked by the famous dark sand Prainha beach – popular with the locals for both relaxing and playing sport. Nearby, just a ride up the hill, is the heart of the old city with its colourful colonial architecture, bustling squares and vibrant markets.
Set on two floors, all guest rooms are sea or pool facing and decorated in a contemporary style that refl ects the hotel’s origins in Portugal. As a focal point, the large pool and terrace area is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, although facilities for children are limited. The Ilheu circular bar that overlooks both the pool and the ocean beyond is the ideal spot to enjoy a drink following a relaxing day of sunbathing or after a busy day exploring Santiago. To top it all off, the excellent restaurant Alex serves Cape Verdean and Portuguese specialities as well as international dishes.
