Porto Grande is in the heart of Mindelo, a town proud of its music, morna and coladeira.  The late great singers Cesaria Evora and Banna were both children of the area, and their continuing presence is impossible to escape from.

After a few flights we arrived in Sao Vicente. An easy 30 minute transfer from the airport and we finally arrived at Oasis Porto Grande Hotel. The reception was welcoming and with no lift luckily they had someone to take our bags to the room. The rooms were dated and could do with modernising but the rooms were ample and ideal for a short stay. The main benefit to the hotel is location especially if your wanting sample the local nightlife.

I loved the location of this hotel - you are right in town and you can walk around in the day or evening.  We could not resist a drink or two in the lobby bar each time we walked in and out of the hotel!

Rooms with a view

The rooms are the same standard here - the only difference is the view.  If you do not upgrade to the square facing rooms (facing the main square outside the front of the hotel) your room will be on the side of the swimming pool instead!
