The famed Hilton Hotels group is coming to Santa Maria, sure to provide a fantastic choice of accommodation beside the soft white sands of Sal.
Set to open in July 2017, alongside the pristine white sandy beach of Santa Maria on the island of Sal, Hilton Cabo Verde are to unveil a brand-new, 240-room hotel, promising to serve as one of the most significant and diverse accommodation choices on the entire island.
Building work on the expansive complex has been progressing well, and when we visited the hotel in December of last year, we got a fantastic impression of how captivating the hotel and its grounds are going to be.

The facilities and amenities proposed for the resort are among the most varied and alluring of any hotel on the island, sure to suit all manner of holiday-makers embarking on a holiday to Sal. There are to be around 240 rooms, all spacious and mostly enjoying sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean - what better view to wake up to every morning of your Cape Verde holiday!
Beyond the rooms, the pool and beach will serve as obvious draws for those on their holidays. The outdoor pool is the perfect place to spend a hot afternoon, cooling off with a refreshing dip before grabbing a drink or some food from the poolside restaurant, 'Azura'. When it comes to the sand, the Hilton will have a number of sunloungers and umbrellas on its private section of the sandy beach, while also offering activities such as kayaking, kitesurfing and scuba diving; all made possible by a fully-equipped nautical sports centre located next to the resort.

Cuisine will also take centre stage at the resort, with no less than four restaurants or bars located within the hotel. In addition to 'Azura' by the pool, 'Magellan' allows stunning ocean views while you dine, serving up themed buffet lunches and an inviting dinner menu. Meanwhile, 'Creole' will aim to blend African cuisine with Creole hospitality in a stunning and romantic waterfront setting.
When it comes to bars, there'll be nowhere more authentic than 'Cize Bar', presenting itself as a homage to the famous barefoot diva, Cesaria Evora, Cape Verde's most celebrated singer. Here you can enjoy live music every night, providing the perfect traditional atmosphere in which to enjoy your drinks. If you're worried about over-indulgence, you shouldn't be, as you can always burn-off the previous night's food and drink at the hotel's 24-hour fitness centre!

The hotel will be blessed by a stunning location, just a 15-minute walk from the heart of Santa Maria's town, while also enjoying a prime position on the sands of Santa Maria's beach. Here are six great things to do in and around Santa Maria for guests staying at the Hilton.
This goes without saying during a holiday to Sal, especially when staying in a hotel right on the beachfront. In addition to the Hilton's private portion of beach, the white sand in Santa Maria is seemingly endlessly, ensuring you'll find various quiet spots to lay your beach towel on the sand.
Cape Verde is considered one of the premier destinations in the world for kitesurfing, so there's surely no better place to try your hand at this up-and-coming sport. You can get some beginner tuition, as well as equipment rental from various places in Santa Maria, allowing you to get to grips with the wind and the waves at your own pace.
If you fancy a lunch or dinner away from your hotel, you can't go wrong when it comes to trying some of the colourful and aromatic beachfront eateries in Santa Maria. The likes of Barracuda serves up some delicious fresh fish dishes, as well as a collection of local and international cuisines - the tuna carpaccio at Barracuda is particularly good.
There's no experience quite as atmospheric or colourful as that witnessed on Santa Maria's pier. Watch as the locals come together to help in the fishing activity that takes places on the waters around Sal, carrying large baskets of colourful fish back onto dry land to sell at the market and to locals and restaurants.
Diving is another great water sport to try your hand at on Sal. Complete novices can take part in classes that will help them get to grips with all the basics of scuba diving, while there is also the chance for holiday-makers to gain their PADI certificates and head out on a number of dives on the open water.
The main town of Santa Maria is lined by plenty of restaurants, bars and shops, providing a great deal of entertainment during both the day and the night. If you want to pick up some gifts for friends back home, you'll encounter a range of craft shops throughout the town, selling pieces of colourful art that do well to reflect the character of Cape Verde.
