Starting to consider potential destinations for your 2017 holidays? This is why Cape Verde will prove a highly rewarding destination for your sunny getaway.

As the weather begins to get colder in the UK and the days become shorter and darker, you can be forgiven for casting your mind to the prospect of sunnier climes, with your 2017 holiday ideas likely to be going into overdrive. Now is a great time to get your 2017 holiday booked up, not just because it gives you some sunshine to look forward to, but also because you're likely to be able to benefit from some great early booking offers.

We think Cape Verde could well be the perfect holiday destination for you in 2017, for several reasons. Whether it is the wonderful weather, the superb sporting opportunities or the great range of accommodation which turns your head, there'll also be countless more rewards and benefits behind embarking on a holiday to the archipelago.

To help you decide if a holiday to Cape Verde in 2017 is for you, we've put together some of our favourite factors of a holiday to the islands, as well as some of our top places to stay.

Why visit Cape Verde?

The beaches

One of the most alluring aspects of any holiday to Cape Verde is the beaches, with several stunning strips of sand located across many of the islands. Sal and Boa Vista are the islands most famed for a beach break in Cape Verde, with the likes of Santa Maria Beach and Praia de Chaves favourites among beach bums.

The adventure

A Cape Verde holiday isn't all about lazing around on the sand or by the pool, there is a great deal of adventure to be embraced across the archipelago. If you're the kind of holidaymaker who finds it difficult to sit still on the sand, why not hop between some of the islands and hike their diverse and dramatic landscapes? Fogo, Santo Antão and Santiago are particularly good for trekking, so pack your hiking boots! Find out more about our island hopping opportunities.

Water sports

Another element of a holiday to Cape Verde which is ideal for those who fancy a dose of action and adventure; the islands are renowned for their superb water sports conditions and facilities, especially when it comes to the wind. Kitesurfing, windsurfing and kayaking are among the most accessible sports, with tuition and equipment hire readily available on the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.

The festivities

There is always music, colour and vibrancy around Cape Verde, but that is especially the case when one of the country's famous festivals gets into full swing. There are countless festivities to absorb throughout the year, but arguably the most atmospheric and famous is the São Vicente Carnival, held 40 days before Easter and defined by colourful and rhythmic street parades, the largest of which can be found in the town of Mindelo.
