Call To Book
If you love beach and mountain holidays, you'll love this island-hopping itinerary. Discover the markets, nightlife, music and mountainous scenery on Santiago and São Vicente before relaxing on the beach on Sal.
Beginning on the island of Sal, you will overnight here to relax and unwind ready for your internal flight the next day.
While on Santiago staying in the mountains, you'll have plenty of time to explore, with walking tours available from your doorstep through the dramatic mountainous scenery of the interior of the island. The rooftop restaurant at Quinta da Montanha serves traditionally cooked, home-grown produce and there is a bar with an observatory for viewing the panoramas and the night sky.
Excursions are available to allow you to visit Praia, which gives you a completely different experience of Santiago. The main square on the Plateau houses some noteworthy buildings including the old Palace of the Council, the Presidential Palace and the old Catholic cathedral. You may wish to explore the large African markets or the Cidade Velha, the old capital of Santiago until 1770. Today, the villagers live amongst the ruins of the numerous churches with the great hill fort behind them.
On São Vicente, Mindelo is a vibrant and exciting city that is generally considered to be one of the cultural centres of the islands and is rightly proud of its rich traditions in art and music. The cobbled squares, wide streets and 19th-century European architecture is reminiscent of colonial times past.
The neighbouring island of Santo Antão is easily accessible by ferry for a day and boasts beautiful mountainous scenery, a popular choice for hikers, with its rugged peaks, volcanic walls and ravines, it's one of the most impressive islands in the archipelago.
With your last six nights on the island of Sal, you have time to relax and make the most of the sun and sand, or take in some of the island tours or a spot of fishing or water sports to make the most of you visit to the islands.
14-night island-hopping itinerary that allows you to experience the wonders of Santiago, São Vicente & Sal.
