About the Local Area

ABOUT THE ISLANDS

Santo Antão is a lush island, thanks to the fertile craters, towns hang from the verdant cliffs, offering wonderful sights for those who visit.

This island may seem a world away from the pristine sands of Sal or Boa Vista, where visitors swap sunbathing and watersports for hiking and breathtaking panoramas. If you prefer, drives along the coastal roads are just as rewarding and provide access to the ravines and gorges of the island's dramatic landscape.

THINGS TO DO

GUIDED TREKS

This is our most recommended activity when on Santo Antão. These treks range from four hours upwards and are a wonderful way to see and learn more about the island. Explore the rugged mountains, rocky landscapes and vibrant towns perched on cliffs edges.

FULL-DAY TOUR

A full-day tour encompasses various locations, from sugar cane plantations and caves, to grogue distilleries and local villages. You will learn plenty about island life along the way.

SELF-GUIDED HIKES

If you are an avid hiker and feel confident enough, you can set off on your very own adventure and explore the local landscapes. The unique Jurassic atmosphere will make you feel like you've entered another world. We do highly recommend hiring a guide when hiking, however, for experts in the sport, this is a great option.

TRADITIONAL CAPE VERDEAN DINNER

It is a must-do when visiting the archipelago, sampling the traditional cuisine! We offer a fantastic excursion in a traditional family setting, where you will be served home-cooked dishes whilst listening to a lovely music ensemble.
